In Codenames, two teams compete to be the first to identify all their secret agents from a 5x5 grid of words. One player on each team is the spymaster, who gives one-word clues followed by a number to hint at their team's words. The rest of the team acts as field operatives who guess the words based on the clue.
The guessing team can make a number of guesses equal to the number given by the spymaster plus one.
- If they guess correctly, they can continue guessing.
- If they guess a bystander, their turn ends
- If they guess the opposing team's agent, their turn ends and that agent is covered.
- If they guess the assassin, their team immediately loses the game.
